Opticology is known as one of the few manufactures that can produce custom Microdisk Optical Resonators also known in the published literature as Microphotonic Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM) Resonators, which derive their name from the path that the resonant light takes as it circulates in the cavity, similar to what Lord Rayleigh described with sound waves circulating around an architectural dome. Typically made from optically active crystals such as Lithium Niobate, Opticology's ability to produce a precision finish on the spherically curved sidewall have allowed researchers to report Quality Factors of Q > 10^7  

Microdisks show great promise as quantum transduction devices due to their ability to convert microwave to optical signals and v ice versa enabling the development of quantum computing applications.  Microdisk optical resonators with high Quality factor are the first building blocks to developing a distributed quantum network
Application beyond quantum computing of Microdisk technology is in industrial applications, medical devices, and biosensors. Commercial applications that have already been demonstrated include a high frequency electro-optic modulator, compact Raman laser, tunable frequency comb generator, opto-electronic microwave oscillator, Brillion laser, and in harmonic generation of laser light.
