Microdisks show great promise as quantum transduction devices due to their ability to convert microwave to optical signals
and vice versa enabling the development of quantum computing applications. Microdisk optical resonators with high Quality factor are the first building blocks to developing a distributed quantum network
Application beyond quantum computing of Microdisk technology is in industrial applications, medical devices, and biosensors. Commercial applications that have already been demonstrated include a high frequency electro-optic modulator, compact Raman laser, tunable frequency comb generator, opto-electronic microwave oscillator, Brillion laser, and in harmonic generation of laser light.
