Opticology, Inc. has acquired a new facility in Brooklyn New York in the waterfront manufacturing district known as Redhook. The century old buildings are being renovated to include design offices and state-of-art optical laboratories for optical test, measurement, and assembly. The new space will include an area dedicated to manufacturing of optical and mechanical components as well as a prototyping shop.

The company announced today the filing of an important patent as a result of the work of its research business unit of a field-portable system for the detection of chemical and biological agents.

Established in January 1999, the company has evolved as one of the leading service provider for outsourced optical engineering and design. Providing fabrication and prototype building services is an essential part of the business and important and necessary to customers in R&D and product development. Opticology Inc. will exhibit at SPIE BiOS 2017, a biomedical optics conference preceding SPIE Photonics West. The company intends to showcase its abilities as a contract developer of medical and scientific instruments.

Tear Glucose Research (TGR), a spin-off company of Opticology, Inc. is named as one of 40 companies identified developing non-invasive glucose monitoring technology to replace finger-stick blood glucose meter currently used by millions who suffer from diabetes.

In an effort to continue its broad appeal to clients in various industries, Opticology, Inc. has completed registration for ITAR through the US Department of State Office of Defense Trade Controls Compliance.

Opticology, Inc. and the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary have been awarded funding for the continued development of a diagnostic device for measuring glucose levels in the human tear film.

In partnership with New York Eye & Ear Infirmary and the Lighthouse International, both of New York, Opticology principals Anthony Cappo and Matthew Orr will present their findings from a clinical study entitled A New Method to Depict Central Scotomas: Automated Stereocampimetry at the 2013 Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) annual meeting in Seattle this coming May.
